Living on a Lake
Many people dream of living on a lake but they never seem to figure out how to do it. They have the boats and all the water sport and fishing gear yet have to travel to get to the lake. If you are one of those people, this is a great time to start looking at living on the lake.
There is a reality check everyone that wants a house on the lake goes through; its just more expensive to live right on the lake than a block or two away. That simply means that your price range will have a lot to do with how close you can really live to the lake. However, two blocks away is a lot different than two or ten miles away when were you want to be is on the water.
Though the prices are higher for that waterfront home, prices are coming down with the overall housing market. There are a lot of second homes that are being sold off as the economy dips as well as older retirees that can no longer take care of their properties. Both of these sectors are in need of a quick sale and prices are reflecting that trend.
However, if youre not ready to purchase yet, its a good time to get ready, especially if prices continue to fall. Falling prices coupled with falling interest rates create the perfect time to purchase a home. Of course, you may have a home of your own that needs to be sold before you can buy another and these are all things that need to be considered.
Finding a good location for a home on the lake is also important especially if you are close to retirement or retired. Making sure you are in an area that also has good hospitals, generational care facilities and infrastructure for other things like shopping, movies and entertainment is also a plus.
No matter how old or young you are, if lake living is on your to do list, it is never too soon to start doing the research and getting prepared to make the move and take the leap. It takes some families several years to get everything prepared and find the perfect situation and home for them to live out their dreams. You are worth the effort and there is always that special house that becomes available at just the right time.
