Mitsuharu Misawa died in Hiroshima, Japan earlier this year less than a week before his 47th birthday. He was in a tag team match for his Pro Wrestling NOAH promotion with Go Shiozaki against Bison Smith and Akitoshi Saito. Saito hit a back suplex on Misawa, which appeared to knock him unconscious. Medical staff attempted to revive him in the ring, but when CPR failed he was taken to a hospital by ambulance. Initial reports in the Japanese media suggest that he was pronounced dead at the hospital, but a number of eyewitness accounts have speculated that he may have died in the ring.

There’s at least a small bit of solace in the fact that he died in the ring doing what he loved, and what he did better than just about anyone on the planet. Misawa’s last moments were spent working the kind of brutally stiff, athletically realistic match that got a generation hooked on Japanese wrestling.

A top level amateur wrestler in high school, his skill gained the attention of All Japan Pro Wrestling president Shohei Giant Baba. He made his professional debut in’81, and got his first big break in’84 when he was chosen as the second Tiger Mask replacing Satoru Sayama. In’90, he had his longtime tag team partner (and occasional rival) Toshiaki Kawada unmask him.

Misawa would wrestle as himself from then on, and become an even bigger star in the process. In June,’90 he became one of the top stars in All Japan Pro Wrestling when he defeated Jumbo Tsuruta. That match was his first main event appearance at the venue Cheap Trick made famous in America, the Nippon Budokan. He soon faced Triple Crown Champion Stan Hansen in an unsuccessful challenge for the title, and would become arguably the biggest native star in Japanese pro wrestling for the next decade.

Hed have legendary battles against Kawada, Hansen, Kenta Kobashi, Jun Akiyama and Steve Dr. Death Williams in singles competition. Hed also become a force on the tag team scene along with Kawada facing Williams and Terry Gordy along with Tsuruta and Akira Taue. Misawa would continue as a mainstay in AJPW until the early part of this decade. After the death of Giant Baba, he left to establish Pro Wrestling NOAH. He would serve as the companys president while wrestling a full time schedule until his death.

Japanese pro wrestling served as an introduction for many American fans into shoot fight sports and MMA. Before the Internet, fans would trade videotapes to stay up on the latest matches from Japan and along with Jushin Thunder Liger and The Great Muta Keiji Mutoh it safe to say that Misawa is one of the wrestlers most responsible for getting a generation of American fans hooked on the product. Were it not for the subculture he created in America, later wrestling promotions like Ring of Honor and MMA promotions like the UFC wouldn’t have had a ready made audience to tap into.

The Columbus Blue Jackets learned a valuable lesson about NHL hockey on Friday night-it’s dangerous to ’sit on a lead’ and particularly against the defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins. Down 3-1, Pittsburgh tied the game late in the third period as Ruslan Fedotenko and Alex Goligoski each lit the lamp with less than three minutes remaining. After a scoreless overtime period, Sidney Crosby scored the only goal of the shootout to give the Penguins an improbable 4-3 victory. It was the 9th win in ten games for Pittsburgh, who are a perfect 6-0-0 on the road. Columbus lost for the fifth time in six games.

NHL hockey betting enthusiasts cashed wagers on the road underdog Penguins, but on the moneyline at +117 and the puckline. Pittsburgh has gotten off to a great start this year, going 11-2-0 in the first month of the season. Columbus is struggling to stay above .500 at 6-5-1. The 7 combined goals scored went OVER the posted total of 5′. The Blue Jackets have gone OVER in 7 of 12 games this season.

Crosby’s game winning score in overtime wasn’t exactly the stuff of highlight reels, with the puck barely trickling over the line:

“It was kind of a fluky. The puck kept going. I don’t know if he lost it or he didn’t know where it was or whatever. I just tried a quick shot. I thought he had the save there. It just trickled in.”

Jackets’ goalie Steve Mason gave this version of Crosby’s shot:

“It hit my stick and I didn’t get it settled until it was over the line. It just trickled over and I was too late on it.”

Penguins’ left winger Chris Kunitz scored a shorthanded goal and praised the leadership abilities of team captain Crosby:

“It shows a lot of character from our captain. He goes out and he’s never quitting on anything. Sometimes a team goes packing, down by two with 3 minutes left. But he goes out, he’s on the bench, he’s saying, ‘Let’s get the next one.’ So we go out there and he finds himself the puck and he gets it to Goligoski, he gets a great shot and puts it in the net to get us to overtime.”

Columbus’ Rick Nash suggested that his team is having trouble ‘closing out’ games:

“We’re not closing games. We got the lead in a lot of the games already and just can’t seem to close it out. They are the defending Stanley Cup champions. You can tell why they’re such a good team. We are a team that needs to learn how to play with the lead.”

Pittsburgh will host Minnesota on Saturday night before heading to southern California next week for games against the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks. Columbus will play at Washington on Sunday before hosting the San Jose Sharks next Wednesday. That’ll be followed by a game in Atlanta against the Thrashers the next night.

The retirement and un-retirement of Brett Favre is becoming an annual rite of the NFL preseason, and this year is no different. A few months after retiring from football after playing last season with the New York Jets, The Gunslinger is back in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings, who’ll pay Favre $12 million bucks if he’s on the opening day roster.

Favre made his announcement at a Tuesday press conference where he spoke of the decision to come back for another NFL season:

“I felt I did everything I possibly could do to get where I need to be. You’re 39, your arm may not feel like it did at 21. But the pieces are in place that you don’t have to do that much and I agree with that. If they were willing to take that chance, I was, too. I don’t know how I’ll feel a year from now, five years from now, but I didn’t want to say what if.

The Vikings will pay Favre $12 million this season and $13 million next season. If he makes the opening day roster in either year, he gets the full amount of the contract though the payments themselves will be deferred. If his level of play isn’t up to par, or should he get injured in training camp the Vikings are still on the hook for $6 million.

Favres mother was even asked for her thoughts on the matter:

“I have mixed emotions, but I have always loved to watch him play. This time, however, I thought he would stay retired and stay home. I guess he could not do it. They Minnesota seem to have a good team in place, and he liked that. I guess I need to get a Vikings jersey now.”

After consulting with noted sports physician James Andrews, he had a change of heart despite suffering a slight rotator cuff tear last season:

“I just kept thinking I didn’t want to go through what I did last year. Between three weeks ago and the phone conversation yesterday [with Vikings coach Brad Childress], I talked to Dr. [James] Andrews and he assured me it wouldn’t be an issue. I felt if everyone was going to take that chance, I was to. As friends and family has told me, you never know until you take the chance,”

Favre said that during a practice throwing session several weeks ago that his arm didn’t feel 100% but did feel pretty good leading him to take the chance and return to action:

“I felt from my standpoint that I could offer some experience and leadership, and I have to admit through this whole process after I said no three weeks ago, sometimes I was OK with it, and other times I said. I can really help this team.”

Less happy with Favres signing were Viking QBs Sage Rosenfels and Tarvaris Jackson who were competing for the starting job and will now be relegated to backup status.

The kind of funds involved in the promotion of a business' offerings is quite significant. People identify with a business when they are exposed to its brand repeatedly through appealing merchandise. Irrespective of the kind of marketing tools that an organization uses, the main aim always is to form a positive impression on potential customers. Lanyards are a great example of this.

Companies often end up spending a lot of money on their marketing strategy. At several events, they use their merchandise to develop a feeling of belongingness for all the participants. There are different kinds of marketing materials but they all have the same aim of drawing potential customers towards them and reinforcing the company’s brand. Using lanyards is one of the ways of doing this.

The use of clothes, especially printed t-shirts, has been a preferred option at corporate events for many years and no one can deny that it has been effective too. However, Lanyards are the newest addition in the repertoire of marketing tools. They are widely used throughout the world, as potential customers often instinctively end up reading the business’ slogan and logo printed on them.

Lanyards can be a very useful tool at corporate events such as seminars, conferences and business fairs. They can be distributed to the participants attending a specific event. Along with the business logo, you can also get the name of the event printed on it so that it can even play the role of memorabilia for the attendees.

Lanyards are effective gift, and also cheap. You can buy them by dozens to give away for advertisement gifts. You name, company or product name, logo, or a message can be imprinted on them. They can be used as give-away at company events.

Lanyards, on account of being cheaper than printed t-shirts, can be a much more economical promotional medium. They are able to create a good image of the business in front of customers and constantly remind them about the brand.

Lanyards, apart from being highly inexpensive and effective, also have other benefits as marketing items. You can use bright colours on them without irking people’s eyes, which gives them a high visibility and draws attention. They are very useful and can serve some important purposes like hanging an ID card or a USB dongle from the neck. In addition, people manage to find some innovative use for a lanyard, and since it stays close to them, it is able to continuously remind them about your brand.

Find out more about lanyards and uncover some of the most effective corporate gifts you can use for your business.

BJ Penn entered his main event battle against welterweight kingpin Georges St. Pierre looking to become the first man in UFC history to simultaneously hold titles in two weight classes. GSP never gave him the chance to make history, as he stopped Penn after four increasingly dominant rounds to retain his belt with a TKO victory and make a compelling case for being the pound for pound best fighter in mixed martial arts.

During ring introductions, both men received enthusiastic cheers tempered with a few boos. After the opening horn sounded, however, the Penn backers had little to cheer about . The first round was fairly evenly contested, with St. Pierre trying to get a first hand feel for Penns often unorthodox takedown defense. GSP made several takedown attempts, but had them repeatedly stuffed.

Boxing guru Freddy Roach recently praised Penn as the best technical puncher in MMA, but he had no opportunity to bring this weapon to bear as he had trouble finding the range from the outset. GSP mixed up his look perfectly, either staying just outside Penns range using his 6 reach advantage effectively or more often smothering his opponent on takedown attempts. St. Pierre was unable to complete any takedowns during the first round, but easily dictated the pace and style of the bout.

GSP began to assert his dominance in round two”with Penn starting to fatigue he was no longer able to fend off St. Pierres single leg takedown attempts by balancing on one leg. GSP got a takedown early in the frame and began to mount a ground and pound assault while moving around in Penns legendary guard almost at will moving from half guard to side control with frightening ease.

The eventual outcome was foretold between rounds two and three, as the obviously exhausted Penn required a pep talk from his entourage to continue. Across the cage, GSP calmly sipped water and listened intently to trainer Greg Jacksons instructions looking for all the world that he could go 12 rounds if necessary.

Round three was similar to the previous one, with GSP taking his opponent to the mat with a decreasing level of resistance and mauling him with punches and elbows once he got there. His complete control over the BJJ black belt Penn was incredible, but hardly surprising given the way that GSP dominated four time NCAA All American wrestler Josh Koscheck on the ground during their matchup.

The fourth round was a wall to wall rout for the Canadian welterweight champion, who started by effectively trading strikes with Penn before taking him down once again and resuming his highly successful ground based attack. Penn survived the round on instinct alone, moving around just enough to keep the referee from stopping the proceedings. After the horn sounded to end the fourth round, however, it was evident that Penn had nothing physically or emotionally left. As he leaned headfirst against the cage in exhaustion, an impromptu conference amongst his handlers on whether or not to continue became moot when the fight was stopped by Dean on advice from the ringside physician. There was no argument whatsoever from Penn or his entourage.

Displaying his characteristic class, GSP delayed his celebration until he had crossed the cage and kneeled by his vanquished foe to honor his competitive spirit. After a quick celebration among GSP and his team, he faced his next challenger in the person of Thiago Alves.

In the co-feature attraction, Lyoto Machida kept his undefeated professional MMA record intact with a first round TKO victory over Thiago Silva. Silva had no answer for Machidas well rounded skills and unorthodox Shotokan karate based style. Machida may be the best in the world at fighting while backing up, and Silva found his aggressive style working against him. Machida took his opponent down and knocked his opponent down twice”all counters as Silva was coming forward and Machida backing away. As the first round entered its final seconds, it appeared that Silva started to ease up in anticipation of the horn. Machida used this opportunity for another takedown, and then nailed his surprised opponent with a powerful punch that ended the fight.

The Montreal Canadiens have gotten off to a slow start this season, and entered Thursday night’s game against the New York Islanders having gone thirteen games without a win in regulation dating back to last season. Apparently, all they needed to cure their ails was a team that was struggling more than they are. The Habs jumped on them early scoring three goals in the first two periods en route to a 5-1 victory at the Bell Centre. Montreal improved to 4-5-0 with the victory while the Islanders dropped to 1-4-3.

NHL hockey betting devotees who weren’t scared away by the -180 home favorite price tag on Montreal cashed their tickets with the Canadiens’ big win. It was the sixth win for the Habs in their last eight meetings with the Islanders. The six goals scored just managed to go OVER the posted total of 5′. The Canadiens went OVER for only the fourth time in nine games, while the Islanders have gone OVER in five of their nine contests.

The sputtering Montreal offense finally woke up, helped by a 43-22 shots on goal advantage. When Montreal opened a 2-0 lead in the first period it marked the first time this season that they’d led by more than a goal, a fact that surprised left winger Mike Cammalleri:

“We’re making it hard on ourselves. That’s something — I didn’t realize that until right now but that makes sense. Every game’s been so tight, and it’s important to try and win in tight games and find ways to win those games but at the same time you can’t do that 82 times a year and then however many games in the playoffs, so it was important to get out to a little bit of a lead and hang on to one tonight.”

Montreal goaltender Jaroslav Halek played well in relief of starter Carey Price, but lost his shutout bid when he misplayed a puck just seconds into the final period. Cammalleri described a conversation he had with Halek after the game:

“After the game I went to give him a hug and he said, ‘I don’t like shutouts. And I said, ‘Well, you better like shutouts!’ But he played great when we needed him tonight, made some solid saves, and we’ll let that one go.”

Islanders’ coach Scott Gordon admitted that his team’s listless play made it easy for the Habs’ to dominate:

“We were a pretty easy team to play against. Defensively we were on our heels because of all our turnovers and it wasn’t just in one area, it was coming out of our zone, it was situations where we had full control of the puck and we’re not making plays. It’s probably the worst that I’ve ever seen it tonight and it’s something that we’ve got to get better at.”

Montreal plays their next two games at home, hosting the New York Rangers on Saturday night and welcoming the Islanders back to the Bell Centre for another game next Monday night. They’ll then head to Pittsburgh for a game against the defending Stanley Cup Champion Penguins on Wednesday. The Islanders have a Saturday night home game against the Washington Capitals before their return engagement with Montreal.
As commercial fairs and exhibitions have proved to be great channels for promotion, organizations have been increasingly using them to draw potential customers.

Organizations have been increasingly using exhibitions for promotion of their products and services because they can draw a lot of visitors. As is true in shop designs, such promotional activities can be given a boost by ensuring attractive booth designs. An attractive booth design will not only help you draw more prospective customers but also raise your chances of making a sale.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that you have to engage the people visiting your booth. The first moments are quite significant as the visitor must instantly get to know the basic details of your offering and be impressed with the things on display.

There is no set formula for guaranteed success in booth designs but you can work upon many aspects and use your own creativity to come up with something effective.

Firstly, you should determine the basic objective of installing the booth. It can be anything from a product launch to a demonstration of your organization’s proud legacy. The creative professionals designing the booth should be made aware of this fundamental purpose.

The booth layout, lighting, look and colour scheme along with textual messages are the main factors that need specific attention. Additionally, the presence of an interactive stand or demonstration of the product tickles the curiosity of the visitors and generates their interest. You can also announce lucrative discounts or give away gifts and souvenirs, with your company’s name printed on them, to draw more visitors and ensure that they will tell about your product to their friends and family.

An ideal booth design should be cheap and collapsible, so that it can be carried, installed, and uninstalled without too much expense. Moreover, it is always advisable to conduct a proper analysis on the visitor trends, customer preferences, and other features of the exhibition when developing your booth design.

You’ve “sliced” that golf ball too many times and spent hours driving thousands of balls on the driving range has not added extra feet to your golf drive. For the umpteenth time you have vowed to give up the game of golf.

Perhaps it’s time to return to college – golfing college that is. But before you enroll consider 4 factors in selecting your college.

Goal

The first concern in picking your golfing college should be replying to what part of your game you want to improve. There are a selection of golfing colleges that focus on diverse aspects of the game. Some faculties offer instruction from big-name talent or focus on that part of the game where you are inside one hundred feet of the pin.

Other colleges supply a broad stroke approach by focussing on every side of the game of golfing. What you need to achieve and improve on in your own private game will establish which college you need to attend.

Tuition

A serious contributor in your selection of the golfing school is your financial position and the return on your investment. Relying on what college you select, who supplies the instruction and other things, schooling for golfing college ranges anywhere from $350 to $3,500. Those other considerations include the position of the golfing college as well as lodging costs. Costs of the golfing college can be kept low if one selects to lodge somewhere else cost effectively.

Many of the schools offer classroom as well as practical instruction out on the links. An additional help is a video analysis of your golf swing with practical instructions on how to improve this critical aspect of the game.

Combine a Vacation

A likelihood of keeping your golfing college costs as small as possible would be the mixing of your yearly holiday and this golfing opportunity. Golfing college opportunities abound that coincide with lavish or popular holiday spots. Golf lessons by day and the delight in the sites, sounds and journeys of the locales by night might be an agreeable experience for golfers and non-golfers alike.

What Makes Them Special?

Finally, check out the various golf schools and find out what is their draw in attracting students to attend their golf school. Some schools offer a high-tech analysis of your game. The software used will not only help to analyze your performance, but offers suggestions on how to improve your swing or other aspect of the game. Some software will even transpose your swing onto that of a professional player’s swing. The results being a visual analysis of what you are doing wrong or right.

Many locations for golfing college provide the chance to play courses that have been designed by famous pro golfers. Additionally, lots of the golfing courses have hosted championship level competitions. Imagine the buzz of playing on a course that wasn’t only designed by Jack Nicklaus, but also a course in which he competed on.

Additional options, may include instruction from a high profile pro, or lessons re psychological angle or analyses that will enable you to pick the correct apparatus to optimize your game. In simple language there are a range of decisions and your selection of a golfing college is dependent on your financial position and what tools the highschool offers that may appeal to you in trying to enhance your game.

The Houston Texans have won consecutive games for the first time this season by virtue of a hard fought 24-21 victory over the visiting San Francisco 49ers. The Texans led 21-0 at halftime but fought themselves in a ball game after the Niners scored the first 14 points of the second half. The rally fell short, however, and Houston improved to 4-3 on the NFL season. The 49ers evened their record at 3-3.

Players that bet on NFL football found the game completely irrelevant, however, as it landed right on the pointspread for a disappointing push. After covering their first four of the season against the NFL pointspread, the Niners have a loss and a push in their last two games to leave their record at 4-1-1 versus the number. Houston is now 3-3-1 ATS on the season.

Despite losing a big lead, Houston coach Gary Kubiak was pleased with the outcome:

“We get down, they get up and they all of a sudden grabbed the momentum of the game. But we made some big plays late and defensively Eugene made a big play so it was a big, big win.”

Niners’ coach Mike Singletary benched quarterback Shaun Hill after a terrible first half and replaced him with Alex Smith. Smith responded by throwing three touchdown passes and getting San Francisco back in the game. After the contest, Singletary explained his move:

“I just thought it was time to make the switch. It was as simple as that. No long, drawn-out thought process. But let’s make the change.”

Smith explained that he caught the Texans’ defense playing passive football in the second half:

“Starting the second half, down three scores, you’re seeing some stagnant looks from the defense, they’re not throwing as much at you.”

Top draft choice Michael Crabtree finally made his San Francisco debut after a lengthy holdout and described what the experience was like:

“I was kind of calm. I practiced on getting calm and coming into the game, knowing what I was supposed to do and executing my plays. I think I did a good job, but I’ve got some more work to do.”

San Francisco will travel east to face the Indianapolis Colts next Sunday, with the 49ers installed as a +11 road underdog and the total set at 45. They’ll return home for their next two games, hosting the Tennessee Titans the following Sunday and facing the Chicago Bears off a short week the next Thursday, November 12. Houston will play their next two on the road, beginning with a game at Buffalo on Sunday. They’ll play at Indianapolis the following week before a bye week.
