The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are constantly a force to be reckoned with in the very difficult Atlantic Coast Conference. Even though this may perhaps well be considered a rebuilding season after the loss of 4 major players to the NFL draft, the team’s record is 3-2 as of the first week of October. There have been wins over South Carolina State, North Carolina, and Wake Forest. Their losses have been to Kansas and ACC rival NC State.

The Yellow Jackets have a tough conference schedule ahead of them, with upcoming conference games against Virginia, Clemson, Duke, Miami, and Virginia Tech. The Yellow Jacket’s last game of the season is traditionally played against in state rival University of Georgia. You will discover 4 remaining home games this season.

Paul Johnson has been the head football coach at Georgia Tech since 2008. He previously served as the head coach at GSU from 1997-2001 as well as the US Naval Academy from 2002-07. Johnson amassed a 20-7 record in his 1st two years at Tech, and led the team to the ACC Championship in 2009. The Yellow Jackets also went on to play inside the Chick fil-A Bowl in 2008 and also the Orange Bowl in 2009.

The Yellow Jackets play their home games in Bobby Dodd Stadium at Historic Grant Field, within the heart of the Tech campus. Built in 1913, the stadium is the oldest on campus stadium in Division I football. The stadium is named for Georgia Tech coaching legend Bobby Dodd, the head coach for 22 years, from 1945-66. Bobby Dodd stadium provides fans with a magnificent view of downtown Atlanta’s skyline. A major expansion of the stadium was completed in 2003, adding additional seating at both end zones, new locker rooms, a player’s lounge, a media room, and coach’s offices. The present seating capacity is 55,000 seats.

Georgia Institute of Technology was founded in 1885. It is considered one of the leading research universities in the country. Located on four hundred acres inside the heart of Atlanta, Tech has an enrollment of over 20,000 students. US News & World Reports has consistently ranked Georgia Tech among the top ten public universities in the nation. The university offers degree programs in 36 undergraduate majors, 47 master’s programs, and 30 doctoral programs.

Take a look at this Atlanta Airport Hotel for its convenience and close proximity to the Atlanta airport. It provides complimentary 24-hour Atlanta airport hotel shuttle service because it is centrally located only one mile north of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Visitors will definitely love this Atlanta airport hotel’s amenities and their location.

When people think of Dubai they automatically think of luxury and why shouldn’t they? This thriving, growing city is known for it’s endless shopping malls, luxury hotels and exclusive bars. However, you’ll be surprised to find just how much those on a budget can get out of this fantastic city. With many Dubai hotels situated on the creek that the city was built on, you’ll be well-placed to spend an evening strolling along the water’s edge. Conserving your cash doesn’t mean that you should miss out on quintessential holiday experiences, admire the fabulous architecture and jostle for space in the crowded bazaars watching the locals haggle and taking in the ambience, you’ll soon find that budget and boring don’t always go together.

During the daytime, avoid the lure of the shops and drag yourself from the pools at the hotels in Dubai and head off to the beach. The salt content of the sea is unusually high here, so a dip in the water will let you float lazily on top of the water as you bob along on topping up your tan, and the salt will do brilliant things to your skin.

Carry on pampering yourself with a free appointment at the Formul’a French Hairdressing Academy. This training salon offers free haircuts, so if you’re feeling brave, trust a student to do your hair and head home with a sexy new look. You could always play it safe and go for a simple trim and tidy up, before you skip out feeling fresh and fabulous ready for a night out.

Keeping an eye on your money doesn’t mean keeping things quiet in Dubai. To make the most of the nightlife and party action, many of Dubai’s bars in hotels and pubs offer Ladies Nights or happy hours, with free drinks and discounts at different times. The karoke competition at The Double Decker pub is popular – mainly because it boasts the grand prize of a free holiday. This English-themed pub is popular with holidaying Brits, and has great special offers with free drinks for ladies on Tuesday nights. Live sports are shown too, and there are affordable snacks and traditional pub dishes on the menu. The pub quiz at Fibber Magee’s pub is also really popular on Tuesday nights, with free drinks on offer as prizes and drink vouchers for ladies on arrival.

Head to The Scene Club for an evening of local culture. The region’s first proper cinema club is a great way to experience the cultural boom that is happening across the Emirates. As part of the Dubai International Film Festival, free films are shown throughout the year. The idea of this fantastic modern enterprise is to improve cultural and creative awareness around Dubai. However, it’s also a great opportunity to see the modern side of the region.

On January 31, 2000, the historic Mapes Hotel in Reno was imploded by 75 pounds of explosives tucked into the art-deco structures support columns. The destruction of the Mapes put an end to years of efforts to preserve the building via lawsuits, redevelopment proposals, and grass roots action. The National Trust for Historic Preservation took up the cause of the Mapes, and challenged the destruction in a suit that eventually reached the Nevada Supreme Court.

While the logic and necessity of demolishing the Mapes is very questionable, one thing that is certain is that the hotel was an important part of Northern Nevada history. The opening of the Mapes in’47 ushered in a new era in casino gambling, and changed the economy and way of life in Nevada forever. The Mapes was actually the first property in the country to combine a hotel, casino and live entertainment under the same roof. It also became the hotel of choice for celebrities staying in Northern Nevada. Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe stayed at The Mapes during the filming of ‘The Misfits’. Joseph McCarthy, America’s famed anti-Communist crusader, admitted to a reporter over cocktails in the Mapes Lounge that he really didn’t have a list of Communists in the US despite his frequent and vitriolic insistence to the contrary.

In the 50s and 60s it became, along with Lake Tahoes Cal-Neva Lodge the place to be seen in Northern Nevada. The top floor, window-walled Sky Room showcased performances by the legends: Sinatra, Louis Prima, Mae West, Milton Berle, Sammy Davis, Jr., and the Marx Brothers among others. Subsequent years were not kind to downtown Reno but the Mapes prospered during the 60’s and 70’s. The hotel finally closed in’82, due more to financial difficulties experienced by the Mapes family caused by one of their other Northern Nevada gaming properties than anything else.

Reno has yet to experience the sort of growth that has been seen in Southern Nevada, and for that reason the destruction of the Mapes is more open to debate than the hotel demolitions to the south. Even the demolition of The Sands–perhaps the most historically significant casino in the state–is hard to argue against given the inability of such a small property to compete in the current Las Vegas marketplace and in light of the value of the mid-strip real estate.

That’s not the case in Reno, where vacant land and/or buildings ripe for redevelopment are abundant downtown and in the other casino areas of the city. The official reason that the Mapes had to come down was that the city needed the land to expand its vision for downtown redevelopment. While this is certainly a much needed effort, to suggest that the existence of the Mapes was a barrier is absurd. In fact, many of the proposals rejected by the city would have gone a long way to enhance the revitalization of downtown Reno and included artists lofts, office space and other mixed used properties. Despite receiving a number of viable concepts for the Mapes Building, the City Redevelopment Authority rejected all of them and the Mapes was destined for demolition.

The role of the City Redevelopment Authority was questioned throughout the process. Overlooking the Truckee River, the hotel was on a prime location between the downtown casino area and the riverfront district. Back in’96, the city of Reno purchased the hotel and began entertaining proposals for renovation and redevelopment. A number of sound financial proposals were presented that would preserve the integrity of the structure including condominiums, office space, and perhaps most viable, upscale senior apartments. Oddly, all of these proposals were turned down by the citys Redevelopment Agency which eventually led to the demolition of the structure.

Following the 2000 demolition, the lot remained vacant for over a year until a temporary ice skating rink was hastily constructed the following winter. The site now houses a permanent ice skating rink which, while not a bad use for the land, isn’t the sort of game changing improvement suggested by the City Redevelopment Agency and their adamant insistence that the building be demolished. To the contrary, it appears they had no specific plan or even general idea of what to do with the land but for some reason wanted to see the hotel come down. This has led to all manner of speculation, ranging from financial self interest to a rumor that the structure was ‘haunted’ and needed to be destroyed to forestall future paranormal activity in Washoe County. Whatever the reason, the city of Reno lost a valuable landmark that played a significant part in the economic growth of the entire state.

Ross Everett is a freelance sports writer and widely regarded sports betting expert. He is also a staff handicapper for Sports-1 Sportsbook and is in charge of setting NFL lines. He has written extensively on sports handicapping theory along with a wide range of other topics including fencing, boxing and dog training.

From the canals of Venice to the architecture of Florence to the ancient historic sites of Rome, Italy is land of plenty for travelers. The food is rich, the people warm and the scenery varies from towering mountains to beautiful seascapes. Italy truly offers something wonderful for every traveler.

Italy offers so many unique and interesting experiences; it can be difficult to narrow them all done for one vacation. Perhaps the best way to approach Italy is to plan to follow several different itineraries and focus on a few unique places. You might decide to combine a visit to Sicily with a driving trip that takes you from Rome to Milan. Another option is explore southern Italy and hit Rome, the Amalfi Coast, Capri and the remote area around Apulia. A unique option would be to head inland and explore the mountain towns and lake regions of Italy.

On her popular website, travel writer Karen Brown details some wonderful itineraries for travelers to Italy, complete with maps, local attractions and excellent lodging suggestions. Her readers also have voted the following hotels as Italy’s best:

If you wish to bask beneath the romance of a Tuscan sun, look no further than Locanda dell’Amorosa, which was chosen by Karen Brown readers as Italy’s “Most Romantic” hotel. The hotel is located in what once was a small village, which has been converted into a hotel, restaurant, extensive wine cellar and wine-making facilities. You can wander the grounds, take a dip in the pool or sip a glass of wine from one of the well-appointed common areas and share your daily adventures with other guests. The guest rooms are simple, yet elegant with a few antiques and lovely views. The hotel’s restaurant boasts an amazing setting, perfect for a romantic Italian dinner for two, featuring traditional Tuscan recipes and an extensive wine list.

Il Falconiere Relais, just a few kilometers outside of Cortona, is yet another Tuscan gem. The hotel, the recipient of the Karen Brown Readers’ Choice Award for Italy’s “Warmest Welcome,” offers an assortment of beautifully appointed, romantic guest rooms and suites. The setting at this hotel is amazing, from the views of the surrounding countryside to the ambiance of the dining room.

Albergo Villa Belvedere is proof that you can eat your cake and have it too.
A visitor can't come to Rome without visiting this masterpiece created in the middle of Rome: the Fontana di Trevi.

by Sarah Dudleymore

A visitor can’t come to Rome without visiting this masterpiece created in the middle of Rome: the Fontana di Trevi.

It’s by far the largest standing and impressive Baroque fountains of Rome. It’s huge: 25.9 meters (85 feet) high and 19.8 meters (65 feet) wide. Rome has an impressive numbero of fountains spread all over the city, more than 3,000, but there is no place on earth like Trevi Fountain.

The place where the fountain is located is at the juncture of three roads. It marks the point of arrival of one of the most ancient aqueducts that supplied water to Rome, the Acqua Vergine acqueduct, stretched 22 km (14 miles) away from the city. The Aqua Virgo acqueduct also fed water into the Baths of Agrippa and has served the city of Rome for more 400 years.

Numerous alterations were made as the centuries passed. In 1629 Pope Urban VIII, thought the earlier fountain was losing its beauty and asked Bernini to sketch and give the fountain a new definite, monumental form.

When the Pope died the project was shelved! The project was adopted and taken over by Nicola Salvi! Work finally began in 1732, and the fountain was completed in 1762. Though Bernini’s project was rejected, there are many Bernini touches in the fountain as it was built

A traditional legend says that when a visitor throws a coin into the fountain, he will be back to Rome again. The tossing of the “three coins” was supposed to be done by three different individuals, but nowadays the current version of the legend says that two coins will lead to a new romance and three will ensure that you will either divorce or get married!

How your love could be governed by the tossing of three coins into a fountain is still a mystery many people believes in. This act has to be done with the right hand over one’s left shoulder and is said to bring good luck.

Each day approximately three thousands euros are believed to be thrown into the fountain and collected at night. The money has been used to help poor people and homeless in Rome. Nevertheless regular attempts to steal coins from the fountain are witnessed very frequently, including some using a magnetized pole. In 1998 the fountain has been refurbished and provided with re-circulating pumps.

Now what the hell is the building behind Trevi Fountain? This palace it’s called Palazzo dei Duchi di Polis and you can admin in the center a modeled replica of the triumphal arch.

On the outside Oceanus, water comes out from her urn and Salubrity holds a cup from which a snake drinks out from. On the top is a copy of the Roman origin of the aqueducts. The tritons and horses provide symmetrical balance, with the maximum contrast with their facial expressions and poses.

“Taming of the waters” is the theme of the gigantic scheme that jumps forward, mixing water and rockwork, and filling the small square.

Trevi area is definetely one of the most beautiful areas of Rome.

Seattle is a city that can be just about anything for anyone. For starters, there are boundless possibilities for outdoor enthusiasts. You’ll find plenty of art galleries, museums and theater. Travelers can island hop around the Puget Sound and feast on some of the Pacific Northwest’s finest cuisine. All of this and more awaits visitors to this exciting Washington city.

For those who plan to stay near to the city, there are plenty of attractions. A trip to the Pike Place Market is a must, where you’ll find tons of vendors selling organic produce, hearty fishermen tossing around freshly caught salmon, flower stalls, restaurants and quirky shops. Across the street from the market is the world’s first Starbucks, and the city boasts a number of excellent independent coffee shops. A recent study listed Seattle as one of the nation’s most literate cities, and to that end you’ll find tons of great bookshops to explore. There is a first-rate aquarium and a wonderful children’s museum. The Space Needle is the perfect spot to enjoy a sweeping view, especially after the sun sets.

But perhaps you long for a quieter getaway, removed from the bustle of the city. If that is the case, why not consider a trip to one of the many islands that dot the Puget Sound. Many islands are easily accessible by ferry and offer quaint, old fashioned towns and picturesque scenery.

Whatever you choose to do in the Seattle area, there are plenty of bed and breakfast options. Here is a top suggestion.

For those who choose to stay in the city, the Inn at Harbor Steps offers close access to all of Seattle’s top attractions. This Seattle bed and breakfast is located in the arts and business district, just minutes from shops, restaurants, Pike Place Market and much more.

Many guest rooms include a fireplace and a few also have a jetted spa tub. There are plenty of amenities, from the fine European soaps and shampoos to the chocolate turndown service. The fitness center has plenty of equipment for your morning workout, as well as a lap pool and basketball court. The innkeepers are happy to make restaurant and activity suggestions and also offer concierge service. The rates at this Seattle inn include a full breakfast buffet, afternoon tea with hors d’oeuvres and freshly baked cookies.

England is wonderful and exciting country to visit for a vacation. There are places of interest to visit to suit all tastes. There is the historic city of York which dates back to roman times, Liverpool, and Torquay known as the English Riviera. One place to visit that should not be missed in the capital city of London.

London is an amazing place to visit, either just for a weekend or longer. You would be surprised at how many people living in England have never visited London, especially when it is usually top of most visitors lists when they first visit England.

There are so many things to do and see in London it is impossible to list them all at once. Surprisingly one of the newest attractions in London also happens to be one of the most popular – The London Eye. Another popular attraction nearby to the London is the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. However, one place which must not be missed is Buckingham Palace.

Buckingham Palace only became the official residence of the British monarchy in 1837. It was Queen Victoria who chose Buckingham Palace as her official royal residence. Ever since then Buckingham Palace has been known around the world as the most famous residence of the British royal family. The palace is located in the centre of London and has always been a rallying point for the British people at times of great joy and sadness.

Buckingham Palace was originally known as Buckingham House. It was originally a large townhouse, built in 1703 for the Duke of Buckingham. It is actually the town house that forms the main core of the palace as we know it today.

Over the next 75 years Buckingham House was enlarged by the additon of three wings around a central courtyard. The main architects responsible for these additions were John Nash and Edward Blore. It was also John Nash who was responsible for the interior design of the monumental staterooms.

The last of the structural additions to the palace were made in the 19th and early 20th century. One of these additions was the facade which was added in 1913 by architect Aston Webb. It is Webb’s work on the palace that we all recognise today.

The Queen has many other residences besides Buckingham Palace. Some of the residences are ‘official’ residences and there are some which are ‘private’. One other famous, official royal residence in London is St. Jame’s Palace and once upon a time was the primary London royal residence. A favourite private residence with the Queen is Balmoral in Scotland. The Queen enjoys a relaxing holiday at Balmoral every August, and was there when she heard the grave news of Diana, Princess of Wales’, sad and untimely passing.

Many travelers to California head north or south, but forget about all the fun to be found in the middle of the Golden State. Monterey is famous for Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium, as well as for its beautiful coastline. The famous 17-Mile-Drive between Pebble Beach and Pacific Grove is a must-see experience.
