Most people choose to include music in their wedding ceremony. It has been a long standing tradition to have music for the arrival of the bridal party, and also to have a special song for the bride’s last walk as a single women. There is always music that is played after the couple has been declared as married, and this music follows them from the church for their first moments as man and wife.

Wedding ceremony songs can be whatever you want, and you don’t have to go with the traditionally used songs if you don’t wish to do so.

Traditional, But, Less Popular Choice

When it came time for my husband and I to choose our wedding ceremony songs, I was sure I didn’t want to use the usual “Here Comes The Bride” tune when I walked down the aisle. I had childhood memories of that song, which often included the addition of words that were not so flattering. I wanted something different. When it came time to choose our wedding ceremony songs, we decided to meet with the organist to choose some traditional songs there were fit for a wedding, but may not be as popular.

I cannot believe my eyes when I saw him crying real tears while saying that it has been his dream for them to be marching together down the isle with that song in the background. Of course, what can a girl do. If it meant so much to him to the point of crying, I had to change my defiant stance.

When your turn comes to select the music for your wedding, remember that you do not have to use the traditional songs if you do not want to. There are so many songs that could suit your taste and the occasion. You can search the Internet and ask your musician and friends for suggestions.

When it comes time for you to choose your wedding ceremony songs, you don’t have to go with the traditional if you don’t want to. You can find suitable songs all over the Internet, and your organist, pianist, or whoever may have suggestions for you in regards to wedding ceremony songs.

Do not rush your choices and it will be ideal if both of you can agree on the repertoire. Observe your fianc, as he might like a specific song included or is averse to a certain type of music, and you should, of course take his choices into consideration.

This summer, we have more than a few weddings coming up. While I look forward to these events with great anticipation, I always have difficulty coming up with an idea for that perfect wedding present. I know I will also be invited to the bridal showers for these events, which leads me to need two presents instead of just one.

Bridal Shower Gifts – Easy Choice

The good thing is that bridal shower presents can generally be purchased from a wedding registry, and if you go to the store early you can get good pick and wind up with something that you really want to give to the recipient. However, if you wait too long after receiving the invitation, presents will be picked over and you may end up with something that would not be your first choice. In the end, though, bridal shower presents are generally much easier to purchase than a great wedding present.

Wedding Present

I probably over think things, but I try to give a wedding present that goes along with a theme. For instance, if I know they like being outdoors, one of my favorite gifts to give is a really nice all inclusive picnic basket and a few bottles of wine. Or, if I purchase something like a mixer I also like to include a few personal recipes or even a full cook book purchased from a store.

Weddings should not be too bulky because you also have to think of the difficulty of transporting them from the reception to the newlyweds’ abode.

On some occasions, gifts to the newlyweds follow the customs of the place where the wedding is done. Some regions in the country give money as gifts so much so if it is being given by immediate members of the family. Meanwhile, in our location, you will see very few gifts on the table while cards with money in it are aplenty. In the Midwest region, guests give material gifts, seldom money.

I am certain I will be able to procure suitable gifts for my forthcoming weddings and as usual I will put so much thought in whatever gift I decide to give. Whatever I choose to give in the end I just have to keep in mind that in gift giving, it is the thought that counts. If still my creativity fails me, then cash gift will be my fallback. This, I am sure will also be acceptable.

by Jack Blacksmith

Men have always loved working with wood ever since the dawn of time. It has been used for a number of different purposes. The only thing which has really changed is that we now have more sophisticated tools to help us. All of the basic concepts such as sawing, drilling and shaping have remained largely unchanged. It is however much quicker because of the advancements in technology.

Three vital pieces of machinery which you need

There are some pieces of machinery which just speed up the job, but there are others which are absolutely essential. These three pieces are vital.

Circular Saw

You can either use a circular handheld or table saw which is very useful for making precision cuts. It can also be used for making long cuts. Hand saws can be used to make very accurate curved cuts, and can be used in other materials other than just wood.

Router

Routers can make your woodwork project more professional looking. Using a table based router makes this much easier. Purchasing one with a guide allows you to accurate cut the wood without making mistakes. If the table is adjustable then it allows you to work in some very intricate details.

Jig Saw

Jig Saws are extremely useful to create smaller pieces with a greater level of detail. These are used to create intricate designs, toys and even decorations. Of course you could also make a jigsaw!

There are many different pieces of woodworking machinery which you should consider purchasing, however only serious wood workers will actually need these. Most novices will start with the tools above and then slowly expand their collection.

One of the easiest beginner projects is to simply install wood moldings. Crown moldings are fairly cheap and you get to learn about cutting wood at a miter. You can even buy premade corner pieces which make this project very easy. If using these corner pieces then you only really need to use a standard saw. A nail gun is also another useful addition to your toolkit, especially one powered by a portable air compressor.

Timeless Tools of the Trade

Hand tools haven’t really changed a whole lot for centuries, the chisel has been around for thousands of years and is still useful today. Buying a good quality set of chisels is certainly a good investment, you can be sure that these will almost certainly never need to be replaced! A router is all well and good, however it hasn’t changed how important chisels are.

You will also need a set of squares so that you can keep everything in square when you are fixing cabinets away. Squares make sure that everything is right.

The best solution is to buy some traditional tools alongside a few power tools. This will create a very powerful toolkit.

by Rick london

In the early ’90’s, I was just another “corporate policy wonk” pushing papers inside the beltway. I had been working in media and public relations for over a decade before I decided to strike out on my own and “build my own empire”. It was more like “The Empire Strikes My Back Side”. I was quickly becoming, or had become, a lean mean working machine, which would serve me well later when becoming a cartoonist and e-tailer; purveyor of funny gifts and collectibles online, the business I am in now, but I would “pay some dues” before I would get to where I am today.

When burnout happens from corporate monotony and abuse in within the Beltway, or any other location i imagine, a person has to get away. And the further the better. I chose Hawaii. There was no Expedia, Orbitz, or Priceline, so i visited my friendly neighborhood travel agency. They recommended three islands, Oahu, Maui, and Kauai. Oahu is mandatory as that is where the plane lands. Air Hawaii was still in operation then, and I immediately took off to Maui and rented a convertible jeep. This story is not about “my summer vacation”, but about Bono of U2, a coincidental meeting with him, and later a business association.

I remember being so tired when I arrived in Maui, even the sheer beauty of it all did not perk me up. I spent most the time laying on the beach, went whale-watching a few times, sight-seeing etc. My most “exciting” part was the end of the day when I could crawl into bed and sleep with no noise, murders, heavy traffic, and the like, that was so prevalent inside the Beltway.

It had to be about two or three in the morning when i was suddenly awakened. I heard a loud crash, some laughing, and guitar playing in the room next to me. I figured it would go away soon but an hour later it was still in progress. I politely knocked on the door and told them I was there to rest and to please hold it down. It was a group of men and giggling young attractive women. The man answering the door looked a bit familiar and introduced himself as “Paul” The men had Irish accents, were very friendly and invited me to join them.

I refused and asked them again to hold it down please. They didn’t so I finally called the front desk to complain. He seemed a bit nervous. He explained to me that he would do his best, but the group in the room was a band that had just done a concert on the Island, and it might be a bit difficult but he would do his best. I told him if he couldn’t, to find me another room, but the hotel was full. It turned out he couldn’t, so at 4:30 I returned and knocked.

The party had gotten louder and I was invited in. I figured if I made friends with “these nuts”, stayed a few minutes, they would get the message and quiet down. Paul introduced me to his band “U2″ and said “and most call me Bono, but you can call me Paul”. I had not heard of Bono, but thought, what the heck, seems like a nice group, I’ll play along. One asked me if I played any instrument (they all had guitars), and i said that i do. (I play the guitar). I was handed one and jammed with a few of them for about 15 minutes and we were having fun and I felt my long lost “mojo” returning.

Their league, I learned within moments, was way above mine in the musical arena. They were playing guitar riffs I could not perform, much less of which I’d seen others do. I figured, “This U2 must be a popular band and might even be a bit famous”. I thanked them for inviting me in and the hospitality and, they did finally get to sleep around seven in the morning. I later read in the paper the next day they were the biggest thing in America and doing a world tour. Oddly, their hit song “One” became one of my favorite tunes, before I even knew Paul wrote and sang it.

Fifteen years went by and I went on with my life. The story gets weirder. I am now a cartoonist with a number of funny gift and collectible e-stores bearing my cartoon images. I had always wanted to be the first cartoonist to “go green” with my funny tee offerings but buying the 100% organic cotton from the manufacturers was totally out of the question, given my budget. I would have had to stockpile/inventory it and buy the printers, and do all the labor, including manufacturing and shipping the tees. I couldn’t imagine such a lifestyle.

While on the web one day, I saw a news report that Bono (Paul) and his wife Ali had opened a 100% organic textile plant with offices in Dublin and New York called Edun Live aka Edun Online, and was offering a for artists and cartoonists to “go green” without having to invest a huge sum of dollars. They had figured out a manufacturing and distribution and drop-shipping method that was within my budget. I took the bait, and I’m glad I did. I did, in fact accomplish that goal, thanks to Paul, and continue to be the first and only cartoonist to have a totally eco-friendly cartoon T-shirt store.

Final Note: I have totally forgiven him and the band for the late night in Maui, and even stay in touch with their offices in Dublin. Also, it turns out Bono had not scheduled a concert in Hawaii at that time. They were resting as well, in between gigs. It was one of those situations where someone asked them if they wanted to play, and they did so on a whim, in a high school football stadium. Bono, even then, obviously had the “to thine own self be true” philosophy. He was not doing this to make money. He was doing it to make music. By the way, Paul’s wife Ali has created her own line at Edun Online as well, not cartoons, but high-fashion and worth seeing.
